Thank you for your interest in Charleston Vision services!
We are a full-service optometry center. Eye exams, LASIK pediatric eye care, and a vast selection of frames for any style and budget can all be found here at O’Brien Vision Center, and that is just the beginning!
Eye Examinations
Our doctors perform a thorough exam of the eye to check for eye disease and determine if a prescription for glasses is needed.
Pediatric Eye Care
Our doctors perform eye exams on children ages 6 months to 18 years of age. The American Optometric Association recommends a child’s first eye exam at 6 months of age and again at three years of age and then before starting first grade. Eye exams are then recommended every two years. Children at risk are recommended to have more frequent eye examinations. A list of these recommendations and risk factors can be found at www.aoa.org/x5502.xml.
Glaucoma Treatment
Our doctors perform specialized testing to diagnose and treat glaucoma, a disease of the eye which causes loss of peripheral vision. Untreated glaucoma can cause blindness.
Eye Infection Treatment
Commonly known as “pink eye,” our doctors can prescribe drops to treat most causes of “pink eye.”
Cataract Surgery
When the lens inside the eye becomes cloudy it causes a decrease in vision and is called a cataract. When our doctors diagnose a cataract they will counsel the patient as to when cataract removal is recommended. Cataract removal surgery has become a simple five to ten minute, outpatient procedure that can also correct the vision. This means that oftentimes no glasses are required for distance vision after cataract surgery. Today bifocal lens implants are available which can free patients from needing glasses altogether after surgery.
LASIK
Our doctors will perform a free LASIK consultation to determine if a patient is a possible candidate for LASIK surgery. If a patient is a candidate, we can set up LASIK surgery with a qualified surgeon. Once LASIK is performed our doctors can then provide all the follow-up care required.
Dry Eye Treatment
As necessary, our doctors use prescription medications; supportive treatment, and can even plug the tear ducts to treat eyes that suffer from dry eye syndrome.
Macular Degeneration
Our doctors can diagnose and recommend treatment options for macular degeneration, a condition that affects the part of the retina responsible for central vision called the macula.
Contact Lenses
Our doctors utilize the latest contact lenses for those that are nearsighted, farsighted, have astigmatism, or need bifocals. If you have been told before that you can’t wear contacts you may want to ask again.
Eye Glasses
We have hundreds of styles of frames for any budget. We also offer all the latest lens options available including no-line bifocals, Transition, anti-glare, and ultra-thin options.
